C: Hey! I’m Cecilia!
A: And I’m Amelia! This is 1-800-Dreamzz!
C: And welcome to September! I can’t believe we’re already here! It seems like just a week ago that we were chatting about exes and nudity in dreams. Oh wait! HA! We hope you all enjoyed Hot Hot August: the Interpretation of Sex in Dreams. Be sure to check those episodes out.
A: Yes definitely! And also, if you’re listening on the day this comes out, September 7, you can take part in our Labor Day sale! With the purchase of a dream analysis or tarot reading, you can get a free three-card tarot spread.
C: We also just added tarot reading parties to our lineup - you and your closest 2-4 friends can have your cards read. Amelia, you just held our first one, how did it go?
A: It went great! We had so, so much fun. This party was purchased as a birthday present and I read people individually while they had a nice quiet covid-bubble get together.
C: That’s great! You can purchase any one of these at 1800dreamzz.com/shop!! Now on to our programming, we are going back to school today and in next week’s episode to talk about school-related topics in dreams! Heading back to the classroom after a summer away is usually pretty exciting, but we know how hard it has been for students, parents, teachers, and communities with the pandemic. At the very least, we hope that these episodes provide some entertainment for you, if not some actual insight into what your dreams are telling you.
And on that note, let’s jump right in! Amelia, what is your relationship with school in dreams?
A: *riff riff* Oh yeah, it is a frequent setting of my dreams. Whether or not the dream is about being back at school, it is often the location. Which I think says something! Each building represents something a little different in my psyche. Like if a dream takes place in my middle school, it is definitely more of a nightmare. I have had dreams where I am taking a test, or roaming the halls and seeing teachers, or I’m on stage at my high school auditorium. What about you?
C: *riff riff* Now based on this information and our own empirical evidence, why do you think we have so many dreams about school?
A: I know we’ve talked about this before in previous episodes, particularly episode 3 - I Failed the Test! But my guess is that we spend so much of our formative years in school and it is where we really learn to become people.
C: Exactly! Whether you’re in private or public school or you’re homeschooled, or somewhere in between, it’s almost like school was invented to put money in yours and my pockets, Amelia, because of all the stress it can conjure for so many people. Taking a test, forgetting your pencil to take a test, getting to class on time, finding your locker, getting good grades - and this is nothing about social life.
A: What, like group projects and bullying?
C: And crushes, sports and clubs - you name it, we can talk about dreams related to it. So here we go.
Let’s talk about one of the most common dream themes related to school: arriving late. You may be surprised to find out that it is related to… Duh duh daaaa STRESS! One of the most obvious interpretations of the dream is that you’re feeling stressed by internal or external deadlines - either from work or that you have placed on yourself. Do you feel like you’re wasting time in real life? Or that you are missing an opportunity?
Michael Olsen, a dream analyst in Denmark, says that it may have something to do with challenges in meeting others expectations of you. To be clear, it does not matter whether or not you’re actually meeting these people’s expectations, it is what your brain is projecting onto another person.
A: So like if all I wanted to be was a personal injury lawyer, but I was afraid of disappointing my traveling circus group family because I felt there was an expectation that I had to take over the family business, but I never actually talked about them about my aspirations, I may have this dream?
C: Are you trying to tell us something, Amelia?
A: *crying* Sometimes it’s easier to talk to you guys, I feel like you really get me.
C: Ring the bell! We’ve got a breakthrough, people! And from Aisling Dream Interpretation.com, they say “What causes you to be late reveals more details on the dream’s message. For instance, heavy traffic means your career is keeping you off your real path. A delay because you lost your phone means poor communication is holding you back. Often, this is communication with your guides. You’re not listening to what they are telling you.”
C: Now as you know, I’ve had dreams where I get a call from my high school and they tell me I need to come back to finish course requirements even though I am very conscious of the fact that I have already graduated from both high school and college. According to Lauri Loewenberg, this is super common and it has to deal with proving yourself in your life, most likely related to your profession or even with family.
A: Well that explains a lot.
C: Right? Alas we cannot talk about this dream forever, so here’s a bite sized piece of information about apples in dreams. Amelia what is the association with apples and school and teachers?
A: Apples are harvested around this time of year and were a nice gift for teachers “back in the day.” When times were hard, apples were given as a form of payment to teachers - as the daughter of a teacher… I don’t know what to say. What does it mean when they show up in dreams?
C: From Best Dream Meaning: “Dreaming about apples growing in a tree symbolize knowledge and wisdom. If the dream depicts many apple trees in an apple orchard, the context symbolizes magnificence. Picking an apple from an apple tree in the dream represents your thirst and quest for knowledge. If the apples have fallen and scattered on the ground, signifies that you need to pick your friends wisely.”
There is also another meaning derived from our relationship with the Bible. What do you remember from the Book of Genesis?
A: There were these sexy naked people made out of ribs, but modestly sexy - they used leaves and hair to cover up their nether regions? And then something about a snake and an apple?
C: Yes! Gold star! Apples can sometimes reflect temptation, like the forbidden fruit of Adam and Eve. Do you feel like you’re being tempted in life? Whether by someone or something? Is that manifesting in your dreams here?
A: I wish! That sounds like fun! And I think it’s time for our next segment -
C: “I had a Dream Once!”
Part 2: I had a dream once!
A: Had a dream about subbing. The kids started out nice but gradually their behavior got worse...it was chaotic. As their behavior worsened, their faces changed to looking like devils..they turned red. That part was very vivid in color. I attempted to get out of the room but they blocked me no matter where I went. Woke up right after that scared to go to work.
Relationship with the devil? Association with kids and the devil? Is this a tie-in with Adam and Eve?
A & C: *riff riff*
